Mamdouh Abbas sends strong message after Zamalek title glory

Zamalek SC honorary president Mamdouh Abbas has outlined a series of important plans and promises following the club’s Egyptian League triumph.

Zamalek clinched their 15th league title after defeating Ceramica Cleopatra FC 1-0 on Wednesday evening in the final round of the championship stage. The victory secured the club’s first league crown since the 2021-2022 season, ahead of rivals Al Ahly SC and Pyramids FC.

The result triggered celebrations among supporters and also prompted Abbas to address several issues concerning the future of the club, including FIFA sanctions, continental participation and the position of coach Moataz Gamal.

Abbas Promises Resolution to Registration Crisis

One of the most significant messages delivered by Abbas concerned the club’s ongoing transfer restrictions.

Zamalek have faced multiple sanctions imposed by FIFA, with the club reportedly dealing with 18 separate registration-related cases.

Abbas expressed confidence that the crisis would soon be resolved and said the club was working towards lifting the registration suspension within the coming days.

He also indicated that solutions were being pursued to secure the necessary African licence that would allow Zamalek to compete in next season’s CAF Champions League.

After several recent campaigns in the Confederation Cup, Zamalek are now expected to return to Africa’s premier club competition following their domestic title success.

The honorary president suggested the club’s participation in the Champions League would proceed normally once the remaining administrative and financial issues are settled.

Fans and Players Praised After Difficult Season

Abbas also used the occasion to pay tribute to the role played by Zamalek supporters throughout the season.

He highlighted what he described as unwavering backing from the club’s fanbase during a campaign filled with pressure and uncertainty.

According to Abbas, he had recently met with an official from the Ultras White Knights supporters group, whom he described as an architect and owner of a clothing factory with deep affection for the club.

Speaking about the supporter, Abbas said he is “organized, calm and does everything he can for the benefit of the White Castle.”

The honorary president additionally praised the players for their performances despite financial difficulties faced during the campaign.

He acknowledged that some members of the squad had not received all of their contractual salaries, yet still managed to guide the team to the league title.

Abbas reflected on the changing nature of football, explaining that the modern game has evolved into a major industry dependent not only on sporting quality but also on strong financial and administrative foundations.

Support for Moataz Gamal to Continue

Another major issue addressed by Abbas was the future of coach Moataz Gamal.

The Zamalek manager took charge in January and quickly transformed the club’s fortunes, leading the side to the Egyptian League title while also guiding them to the final of the African Confederation Cup.

Although Zamalek were defeated in the continental final, Gamal’s achievements have earned widespread praise among supporters and sections of the club hierarchy.

Abbas openly backed the idea of offering the coach a long-term contract following the conclusion of the current season.

His comments come amid ongoing debate inside the club over whether Zamalek should continue under Gamal’s leadership or appoint a foreign coach ahead of next season.

For now, the league triumph has restored optimism around the club, while Abbas’ remarks suggest that major efforts are underway to stabilise Zamalek financially and competitively as they prepare for a return to the African Champions League.
