Ivory Coast international Simon Adingra appears to have reignited his career in France after an inconsistent first half of the season at Sunderland, with AS Monaco now considering extending his stay following an impressive loan spell.
The 23-year-old winger joined the Ligue 1 side during the second half of the campaign in an attempt to rediscover form and regular playing time, and his performances have quickly turned him into one of Monaco’s most influential attacking players.
Adingra made 14 appearances in Ligue 1, starting 10 matches and accumulating 862 minutes on the pitch.
During that period, he contributed three goals and two assists, numbers that have strengthened Monaco’s interest in keeping the Ivory Coast player beyond the end of the season.
The Ivorian’s resurgence comes at an important moment both for club and country.
Ivory Coast are preparing for their fourth FIFA World Cup appearance and have included Adingra in their 26-man squad for the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The Elephants begin their Group E campaign against Ecuador on 14 June before facing Germany and tournament debutants Curacao.
With several Premier League-based players selected in the squad, Adingra is expected to play a key role in Ivory Coast’s attacking plans.
His revival in France could therefore be a major boost for the West African side ahead of the global tournament.
Monaco’s interest in keeping the winger reflects how highly he has been rated since arriving in the principality.
According to reports in France, the club’s management have been convinced by both his consistency and impact in attack.
However, securing a permanent transfer may not be straightforward.
The original loan agreement reportedly cost Monaco one million euros and includes a purchase option worth 17 million euros.
Given the club’s current financial situation, that fee could prove difficult to meet immediately.
As a result, Monaco may instead explore the possibility of extending the loan arrangement for another season, especially if they secure qualification for the UEFA Conference League play-offs and require additional squad depth.
Adingra’s future could also depend heavily on Sunderland’s plans.
The English club still hold the player under contract until June 2030 and may now reconsider his role after his strong displays in Ligue 1.
Sunderland could choose to reintegrate him into their squad for next season or attempt to profit financially from growing interest in the player.
The Black Cats are preparing for their final Premier League match of the season against Chelsea, while attention around Adingra continues to grow ahead of the summer transfer window.
For Ivory Coast supporters, the winger’s return to form offers timely encouragement before the World Cup begins.
After a difficult spell earlier in the season, Adingra now heads into the tournament with confidence restored and momentum building.
His performances in Monaco have not only revived his club career but may also provide the Elephants with an important attacking weapon on football’s biggest stage.
