Fulham manager Marco Silva says Alex Iwobi is available again for selection ahead of Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Wolverhampton Wanderers, handing the London club a timely boost in the closing stages of the campaign.
The Nigeria international has missed Fulham’s last three matches with a hamstring injury but has now returned to full training and could feature at Molineux this weekend.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference, Silva confirmed the midfielder had made steady progress over the past two weeks and was ready to rejoin the squad.
“Alex is available for the match again. Last week, he took part in a few training sessions with us. This week, he’s been working with us throughout. It’s been a good week for him.”
Iwobi’s return comes at an important moment for Fulham as the club looks to finish the season strongly. Before suffering the injury, the midfielder had been among the side’s most dependable performers during the campaign.
The former Arsenal and Everton player had largely remained available throughout the season, with his absences mainly linked to international duty during the Africa Cup of Nations. His consistency and flexibility have made him an important figure in Silva’s plans.
Silva stressed the value Iwobi brings to the team, highlighting both his adaptability and his influence in attacking areas.
“He’s a key player for us, no doubt about it. He’s very versatile, able to play in several positions. He also brings real added value in decision-making.”
The Portuguese coach has frequently relied on Iwobi in a variety of roles across midfield and attack this season, with the player’s versatility proving useful during periods affected by injuries and squad rotation.
While Fulham have been strengthened by Iwobi’s return, Silva will still be without defender Joachim Andersen for the trip to Wolves. Andersen is suspended following the red card he received in Fulham’s defeat by Bournemouth.
Ryan Sessegnon also remains unavailable as he continues his recovery on the sidelines.
Fulham will hope the return of Iwobi can provide renewed momentum as they prepare for another difficult away fixture in the Premier League. Wolves have often proved challenging opponents at Molineux, and Silva’s side will be eager to respond after recent setbacks.
The return of an experienced player such as Iwobi could offer both balance and creativity to Fulham’s attack, particularly given the importance Silva places on the midfielder’s ability to influence games in different positions.
Fulham’s preparations for the match received a further lift after Silva confirmed that Iwobi had completed a full week of training without complications, suggesting the 30-year-old is ready to contribute immediately if selected.
As the season approaches its conclusion, Fulham will be hoping the midfielder’s comeback can help stabilise the side and improve their performances during the final stretch of the campaign.
