Nicolas Jackson caps Bayern title-winning season with final-day goal

Nicolas Jackson rounded off an impressive season with Bayern Munich by scoring in a 5-1 victory over FC Cologne as the Bundesliga champions closed out a remarkable domestic campaign.

The Senegalese striker came off the bench in the 83rd minute and needed only moments to make an impact, finishing from a pass by Luis Diaz to score Bayern’s fifth goal of the afternoon at the Allianz Arena.

It was Jackson’s 11th goal across all competitions during the 2025–26 season and his eighth in the Bundesliga, capping a campaign in which he quietly established himself within Vincent Kompany’s title-winning squad.

The victory ensured Bayern finished the season in emphatic style after a campaign in which they reportedly suffered only one defeat.

The final league match also carried emotional significance for several departing players, including Jackson, who received tributes from club officials and supporters before kick-off.

The Senegal international started the match on the bench but was warmly applauded when introduced late in the second half.

Bayern had already taken firm control of the contest long before Jackson’s arrival.

Harry Kane was central to the champions’ dominance, scoring a hat-trick as Bayern overwhelmed Cologne with attacking football from the opening whistle.

The England captain opened the scoring in the 10th minute after converting a cross delivered by Joshua Kimmich.

Just three minutes later, Kane doubled Bayern’s lead with a powerful low strike from a free-kick routine near the edge of the penalty area.

Cologne briefly threatened a comeback when Saïd El Mala produced an impressive solo run before finishing calmly past Manuel Neuer to make it 2-1 in the 18th minute.

However, Bayern restored their two-goal advantage shortly afterwards through Tom Bischof, who finished neatly following a move involving Lennart Karl and Konrad Laimer.

The champions continued to create chances throughout the first half, with Diaz and Jamal Musiala both going close before the interval.

Bayern maintained control after the break, although the tempo slowed slightly as Cologne attempted to stay competitive.

Kane eventually completed his hat-trick in the 69th minute after being set up by Leon Goretzka, firing into the bottom corner from distance to make it 4-1.

One of the afternoon’s emotional moments came when Goretzka was substituted to a standing ovation from supporters, marking what was described as his final home appearance for the club.

Jackson replaced him moments later and immediately added his own contribution, finishing clinically after Diaz created the opportunity down the flank.

For African football followers, Jackson’s season in Germany represents another significant step in the development of one of Senegal’s leading attacking talents.

Having arrived in Bavaria with relatively limited attention, the striker has gradually become an important squad option for Bayern and now ends the campaign with a league title and the possibility of adding more silverware in the German Cup final.

Bayern’s dominant victory also underlined the depth within Kompany’s squad as the club completed one of its strongest Bundesliga campaigns in recent years.
