The electoral process for the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFOOT) has moved into its final stage, with an Extraordinary General Assembly scheduled for 26 September 2026.
The Electoral Commission formally summoned the electorate for the assembly through decision No. 010/2026/FECOFOOT/CE, signed on 11 September by its president, Modeste Moussa Ewangoyi.
The meeting is expected to pave the way for the renewal of the governing body of football in the Republic of Congo, in line with the federation’s current statutes.
The election comes with the majority of the country’s key football stakeholders eligible to participate in the process.
Among those represented are the 14 clubs competing in the top-tier Ligue 1, including AC Léopards, AS Otohô, Diables Noirs, CARA and Étoile du Congo.
Teams that have qualified from Ligue 2 Zones A and B will also form part of the electoral body, alongside 11 departmental leagues.
The electorate will further include representatives from the regional leagues of Brazzaville, Pointe-Noire, Niari and Cuvette.
Women’s football will also have representation, with members of the LINAFJ, the National League of Women’s Football, included among those eligible to vote.
However, not every football interest group will be able to take part in the election.
The Electoral Commission’s decision points to Article 85 of the FECOFOOT statutes, which excludes interest groups that have not organised their own elective general assemblies.
That restriction affects groups representing former players, coaches, referees and sports medicine professionals.
Their exclusion means the composition of the electorate will be determined not only by their role within Congolese football but also by whether they have fulfilled the electoral requirements set out in the federation’s statutes.
The decision has been transmitted to the Ministry of Sports, world governing body FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF), placing the upcoming assembly under the attention of the institutions overseeing football at national, continental and global levels.
For Congolese football, the 26 September meeting represents an important moment in determining the leadership of FECOFOOT and the direction of the sport’s administration.
The electoral process has therefore reached a decisive point, with clubs from the country’s top flight and lower divisions, departmental and regional leagues, and women’s football all forming part of the wider electorate.
