Côte d’Ivoire have been dealt a defensive setback ahead of the November international break, with left-back Ghislain Konan expected to miss the upcoming fixtures after suffering a knee injury at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The 30-year-old damaged his medial collateral ligament (MCL) during a training session late last week and is facing around eight weeks out, according to Express & Star. The injury is expected to rule him out of Côte d’Ivoire’s next international commitments.
Konan was absent from Wolves’ squad for their 1-0 victory over Watford on Saturday, October 24. Head coach Cesar Peixoto subsequently indicated that the defender was due to undergo a scan to establish the extent of the problem.
Further reports confirmed the MCL injury, with Konan not expected to require surgery but needing time for the ligament to heal.
His absence presents a challenge for the Elephants, who will have to consider alternative options on the left side of their defence as they prepare for the November international window.
Konan is an experienced member of the national team and featured for Côte d’Ivoire at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His defensive experience and familiarity with the national setup make his unavailability a setback for the African champions.
Wolves will also have to manage his absence as they navigate their Championship campaign. The club’s report identified Hugo Bueno as the only recognised left-back available to Peixoto following Konan’s injury.
Côte d’Ivoire’s technical staff must now assess their options and identify a suitable replacement while monitoring Konan’s recovery.
