2026 World Cup: Morocco train at full strength before Canada showdown in Houston

Preparations of Morocco for their 2026 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 clash with Canada have received a major boost after the entire squad trained together for the first time ahead of Saturday’s match in Houston, Texas.

The Atlas Lions, who have impressed throughout the tournament so far, are now fully focused on their knockout tie, scheduled for 6:00 PM Moroccan time at NRG Stadium.

The fixture marks another important step in what has already become a historic campaign for the North African side.

Head coach Mohamed Ouahbi was able to welcome a complete and fully fit squad to training, including defender Chadi Riad, who has recovered from a minor injury that kept him out of the previous match against the Netherlands.

Riad’s return is seen as a significant boost for Morocco, with the coaching staff now having all players available for selection at a crucial stage of the competition.

His recovery adds depth and flexibility to the defensive unit as Morocco prepare for a physically demanding encounter against Canada.

The team’s latest training session featured full participation from all squad members, allowing the technical staff to work through tactical drills and physical conditioning without restriction.

The coaching team is understood to be satisfied with the squad’s condition, with no injury concerns reported heading into the match.

Morocco arrive in Houston after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over the Netherlands in the previous round.

After a 1-1 draw that extended through extra time, the Atlas Lions held their nerve to win 3-2 on penalties and secure their place in the last 16.

That result extended Morocco’s unbeaten run in the tournament.

Their group stage performances included a 1-1 draw against Brazil, a 1-0 win over Scotland, and a 4-2 victory against Haiti, underlining their consistency across different match situations and opponents.

The team’s current form and fitness levels have raised expectations among supporters, with many viewing this squad as one of the most balanced Morocco have produced at a World Cup.

With no injury concerns and strong momentum behind them, Ouahbi’s side head into the Canada match in confident mood.

Training in Houston began earlier in the week following Morocco’s arrival in Texas. The initial session focused on recovery work, including gym-based exercises and individual treatment for players after travel.

The latest session, however, marked a return to full outdoor training intensity, combining physical drills with tactical preparation.

The setup at the Houston Dynamo and Dash facilities has allowed Morocco to fine-tune their preparation in controlled conditions as they adjust to the environment ahead of the knockout stage.

Beyond the pitch, arrangements have also been made for supporters travelling from Morocco, with several charter flights organised to transport fans to Houston for the match.
