Zamalek have told young midfielder Youssef Wael Faransi that he must decide on his future soon, with the Egyptian club unwilling to wait until January before resolving his contract situation.
Wael’s current deal expires at the end of the season, meaning he would be able to negotiate and sign for another club during the January transfer window without Zamalek’s involvement.
The club’s management has therefore stepped up efforts to reach an agreement with the midfielder and had sought a meeting with him to discuss the terms of a renewal.
However, Wael asked for the meeting to be postponed because his agent is currently outside Egypt.
The request has added uncertainty to the player’s future, although Zamalek understand why he wants his representative involved in the discussions.
A source within the club said the management had made it clear to Wael that it expects him to make his position known in the coming period.
The source said Zamalek had already taken the first step by requesting a meeting to discuss the renewal, but Wael asked for more time because his agent was not in Egypt.
According to the source, the club accepts the player’s wish to have his agent present but does not want the negotiations to be repeatedly delayed.
Zamalek are particularly keen to reach a decision before January because allowing the situation to continue unresolved would leave the club facing a more difficult position once the winter transfer window opens.
Zamalek seek clarity before January
The Egyptian club has effectively made January a key point in the negotiations, with officials wanting a clear answer before Wael enters the period in which he can commit his future to another side.
Zamalek believe prolonged delays would benefit neither the player nor the club. Their latest move is intended to push the negotiations towards a final decision rather than allow the matter to remain unresolved.
Wael now has two clear options: agree to extend his stay at Zamalek or indicate that he wants to leave and begin a new chapter elsewhere.
The club’s management is waiting for the midfielder’s response before deciding what action to take next.
Officials are also keen to avoid a repeat of a situation in which a player reaches January without renewing his contract and subsequently leaves without Zamalek receiving a transfer fee.
The midfielder’s contract situation has therefore become a matter of urgency for the club, particularly with the winter transfer window approaching.
For now, Zamalek are waiting for Wael to clarify his intentions, while the presence of his agent remains an important factor in determining when the renewal discussions can take place.
