Zamalek SC are finalising preparations for a decisive المرحلة in their season, as they aim to secure both the Egyptian Premier League title and the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Cairo-based club are set to face Pyramids FC on Thursday evening in the third round of the championship المرحلة, in what is widely viewed as a pivotal fixture in the domestic title race. Coaching staff have been working to settle on the starting line-up, with recent training sessions indicating that the squad is fully fit and ready.
Among those returning is experienced right-back Omar Gaber, who has recovered from a calf injury sustained during the goalless draw against CR Belouizdad in the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final second leg.
Title Race Intensifies
Zamalek currently lead the standings with 46 points, despite having played only one match in the البطولة المرحلة. Pyramids sit close behind on 44 points, level with defending champions Al Ahly SC, though the latter have played an additional game.
The upcoming encounter is therefore expected to have a significant impact on the direction of the title race, with Zamalek seeking to consolidate their position at the top.
In preparation, the technical staff have implemented a строг regimen, including an early closed training camp designed to maximise focus and minimise distractions ahead of the المباراة.
Push for a Historic Double
Beyond domestic ambitions, Zamalek are also targeting success on the continental stage. The club is preparing for the CAF Confederation Cup final against USM Alger, with the first leg scheduled for 9 May in Algeria.
An official source within the club outlined the scale of preparations underway, stating: “There are large bonuses allocated by both the club’s management and supporters for each title, and the possibility of the team traveling by private plane to Algeria in preparation for the match against USM Alger, scheduled for May 9 in the first leg of the Confederation Cup final, has also been considered.”
The source added that efforts are being coordinated across the club’s management, board and supporters to create optimal conditions for success in both competitions.
Focus and Discipline
As part of this strategy, the club’s leadership has taken steps to maintain focus within the squad. Plans are in place to request full stadium capacity at Cairo International Stadium for the return leg of the Confederation Cup final, reflecting expectations of strong backing from supporters.
The same source emphasised the importance of concentration during this decisive period, saying: “The technical and administrative staff have warned the players, especially (defender) Hossam Abdel-Magid, not to talk about any professional offers at the moment and to focus entirely on the remaining matches of the league and Confederation Cup to win them.”
With both domestic and continental honours within reach, Zamalek face a defining stretch of their season. The coming weeks will determine whether their meticulous preparations translate into silverware, as they attempt to balance the demands of a tightly contested league race with the pressures of a major African final.
