SC Freiburg produced a commanding 4-1 victory over Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga, with Yuito Suzuki scoring twice as the home side secured a comfortable win.
Freiburg took control of the match on home territory and opened the scoring in the 29th minute. Jan-Niklas Beste provided the assist, setting up Suzuki, who finished the move by sending the ball into the net.
The early breakthrough gave Freiburg the advantage they had been seeking, and they soon extended their lead. Igor Matanovic added a second goal for the hosts, leaving Werder Bremen with a difficult task before half-time.

Werder did manage to score later in the match through Dariusz Stalmach, but the goal did little to change the outcome. Freiburg had already established a substantial advantage, and the visitors were unable to produce a further response.
The result ended with Freiburg winning 4-1, completing a decisive Bundesliga success in front of their home support. Suzuki’s two goals formed the central feature of the performance, while Beste’s assist and Matanovic’s goal helped the hosts build a lead that Werder could not overturn.
For Werder Bremen, Stalmach’s goal represented the only success of the evening. The visitors were unable to add to it and ultimately left Freiburg without taking anything further from the match.
The teams are scheduled to meet again in the second round on 23 January 2027, when Werder Bremen will host Freiburg in Bremen. That fixture will provide the German sides with another opportunity to face one another, but this meeting belonged clearly to Freiburg, who completed a 4-1 victory after taking an early lead and maintaining their advantage throughout the contest.
