French-Malian midfielder Youssouf Fofana is the subject of a rumoured move from AC Milan to Lyon, with the Ligue 1 club linked with a potential return for the 27-year-old.
The proposed transfer is currently assessed at 74%, although no agreement has been confirmed. Fofana’s market value is listed at €23m, while his contract with Milan runs until 30 June 2028.
Fofana has not featured in either of Milan’s two possible Serie A games at the start of the 2026-27 season, with no appearances, goals or assists recorded. He joined the Italian club from Monaco on 17 August 2024 in a deal worth €26m.
The defensive midfielder won the Italian Super Cup with Milan during the 2024-25 campaign. He had previously spent four seasons with Monaco after beginning his senior career at Strasbourg, where he won the French League Cup in 2018-19.
Fofana was also part of France’s squad that finished as runners-up at the 2022 World Cup. He has represented France internationally, while also holding Malian nationality.
The rumour would represent a move from Serie A back to Ligue 1 for Fofana, but his existing Milan contract means any transfer would require an agreement between the clubs rather than a free move.
