World Cup-bound Morocco hit new heights in FIFA standings

Morocco have reached the highest FIFA ranking in their history after climbing to seventh in the latest world standings, further strengthening their position as Africa’s leading national team.

The Atlas Lions moved up to seventh place with 1,756.94 points, marking another milestone in a period that has seen the North African nation establish itself among the world’s elite footballing nations.

The rise follows Morocco’s emphatic 4-0 victory over Madagascar and was aided by the Netherlands’ unexpected 1-0 defeat to Algeria.

The combination of those results helped Morocco improve their standing and secure a place among the top seven teams in world football.

The achievement represents the best FIFA ranking ever attained by Morocco and further underlines the country’s growing influence on the international stage.

Morocco’s latest success is also significant from an African perspective.

The Atlas Lions remain the highest-ranked team on the continent, maintaining a comfortable lead over several of Africa’s traditional football powers.

Senegal are the next highest-ranked African nation in 14th place globally, while Nigeria sit 25th. Algeria’s victory over the Netherlands helped them climb to 28th in the world rankings, with Egypt occupying 29th position.

The latest rankings reflect Morocco’s consistency in recent years and their ability to compete with some of the strongest football nations across the globe.

Having already established themselves as one of Africa’s most successful teams in international competitions, the Atlas Lions continue to set new standards for the continent.

Their latest ranking places them ahead of a number of nations with long-established football traditions and highlights the progress made by Moroccan football in recent years.

The team’s rise has been driven by strong performances in competitive fixtures, with the victory over Madagascar providing another example of their ability to deliver convincing results when required.

Morocco’s position among the world’s top seven teams comes at an important time as preparations continue for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The North Africans will begin their campaign against Brazil on June 13 in what promises to be one of the standout fixtures of the group stage.

Their second group game will come against Scotland on June 19 before they conclude the opening phase of the tournament against Haiti on June 24.

The latest FIFA rankings are likely to boost confidence within the Moroccan camp ahead of those encounters, with the team entering the competition as both Africa’s highest-ranked nation and one of the top-ranked sides in world football.
