Real Madrid have reached a full agreement with Vinicius Junior over a new six-year contract, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, ending growing uncertainty over the Brazil international’s future at the club.
The formal paperwork is expected to be signed before the renewal is officially announced in the coming period. The agreement will keep Vinicius at Real Madrid and extend his career at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Romano said on X that Vinicius’ preference had always been to remain with Real Madrid. Club president Florentino Perez also views the forward as one of the central figures in the club’s sporting project, helping the two sides reach a final agreement.
According to Spanish newspaper AS, Vinicius will earn about €24m (£20.6m) per year under the terms of his new contract.
The agreement follows a period of difficult negotiations between Real Madrid and the player’s representatives. The club had been working to improve its financial offer and settle the matter before Vinicius entered the period in which he would have been free to negotiate with other clubs.
With less than a year remaining on his current deal, Vinicius had been the subject of intense speculation. Arsenal were strongly linked with a move for the 24-year-old, with the Premier League club reportedly keen to take advantage of his contract situation.
Vinicius also fuelled further discussion about his future after deleting all the posts from his Instagram account. The move prompted renewed claims that he could leave Real Madrid, although the latest developments now point towards him committing his future to the Spanish club.
Jose Mourinho has reportedly played an influential role in securing the renewal. Since taking charge of Real Madrid, the Portuguese manager has made clear that he wants Vinicius to remain part of his plans and considers him an indispensable member of the team.
Romano said Mourinho was directly involved in contacts and negotiations before the agreement was reached. His participation underlines the importance attached to Vinicius within Real Madrid’s new sporting project.
The forward’s intended renewal comes after a succession of reports suggested that talks between the club and his representatives had become increasingly complicated. Real Madrid’s decision to improve its proposal was aimed at preventing the situation from developing into an opportunity for rival clubs.
Those reports coincided with strong interest from Arsenal and the uncertainty created by the limited time left on Vinicius’ existing contract. However, the player’s long-standing desire to continue at Real Madrid, combined with Perez’s belief in his importance to the club, has led to an agreement between all parties.
The contracts are still to be signed and the renewal formally announced, but Romano’s report indicates that the principal terms have been settled. Vinicius is therefore set to continue his career at Real Madrid on a deal lasting six years, with an annual salary of approximately €24m.
