Trabzonspor have suffered an early setback before the new season after young midfielder Tim Jabol-Folcarelli underwent successful surgery on his right knee.
The Turkish club confirmed that Jabol-Folcarelli will be sidelined for a period after suffering the injury during one of their pre-season friendlies. The problem comes as Trabzonspor celebrate the arrival of Mohamed Salah, a signing that has attracted widespread attention in Turkey and beyond.
Trabzonspor’s head of medical affairs, Professor Dr Ahmet Besir, said the player developed swelling and severe pain in his right knee following the match.
“Detailed medical examinations and magnetic resonance imaging revealed an injury to the lateral meniscus of the knee, which required immediate surgical intervention,” Besir said.
The operation was performed by Dr Mustafa Sengun at Acıbadem Fulya Hospital, Trabzonspor’s sponsor hospital. The club said the damaged section of the meniscus was removed using arthroscopic surgery and that the procedure had been completed successfully.
Jabol-Folcarelli’s rehabilitation programme will begin immediately, with Trabzonspor’s medical staff working to prepare him for a return to full team training as soon as possible. The club did not provide a specific timetable for his recovery.
The injury leaves Trabzonspor managing an unwanted concern at the same time as the club attempts to build momentum around what it describes as its most significant and expensive signing. Salah’s move to the Turkish side has generated major interest among Turkish and international football supporters.
