Torino are considering a loan move for Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio if their proposed transfer for Leeds United’s Lucas Perri cannot be completed, according to Italian newspaper La Stampa.
Torino’s priority remains the signing of Perri, but uncertainty has emerged over the deal after Marseille made a late intervention. The transfer had previously appeared close to completion, with Perri expected to travel to Torino for a medical examination before signing his contract.
That appointment has now been postponed after Marseille entered the negotiations with a strong offer. The French club’s interest has prompted Perri to reconsider his next move, despite Torino having already reached a verbal agreement with the player.
Torino sporting director Gianluca Petrachi and the club’s management remain cautiously hopeful that the original agreement can still help them secure the goalkeeper. However, the Turin club are not prepared to wait without exploring alternatives.
Torino are expected to assess whether the Perri transfer can be revived over the next 24 to 48 hours. At the same time, they have started examining other experienced goalkeeping options, with Di Gregorio’s name becoming increasingly prominent in recent hours.
Di Gregorio currently belongs to Juventus, although his position at the club is uncertain. Juventus are looking for a new first-choice goalkeeper and have identified Zion Suzuki and Guglielmo Vicario as potential targets.
Should Juventus make changes to their goalkeeping department, Di Gregorio could be allowed to leave. The 28-year-old, who previously played for Monza, has established himself as a goalkeeper with Serie A experience and is viewed by Torino as a dependable alternative.
A loan agreement would currently be the most realistic way for Torino to sign him. Such a deal would give the club access to a goalkeeper who has already proved himself in Italy’s top flight while limiting the financial commitment required to strengthen the position.
Nevertheless, Di Gregorio is not being treated as Torino’s preferred solution. The club’s main objective is still to complete the move for Perri, with the Juventus goalkeeper regarded as a reliable contingency option should negotiations with Leeds United fail.
Torino’s next step will depend largely on whether Perri’s proposed medical examination can be rearranged and whether Marseille can persuade the player to choose a move elsewhere. Until the situation becomes clearer, the Italian club will continue to keep Di Gregorio under consideration.
The latest developments come as Torino seek greater certainty in goal, with the club balancing its desire to complete the Perri transfer against the need to have an alternative ready if the deal collapses.
