Tawfik Bentayeb: Augsburg and Standard Liege step up interest in Ligue 2 top scorer

Morocco forward Tawfik Bentayeb is attracting strong interest from Augsburg and Standard de Liege after finishing as Ligue 2’s top scorer with Troyes last season.

The 24-year-old, who is under contract with Moroccan side US Touarga and spent the campaign on loan in France, is being closely monitored by several European clubs following his standout year.

According to Foot Mercato, Bundesliga club Augsburg are among the most determined suitors and are already in talks behind the scenes as they explore a deal to bring the striker to Germany.

Bundesliga move under discussion

Augsburg are reported to be highly impressed by the profile of the Casablanca-born forward, who enjoyed a breakout season in French football and has established himself as an international with Morocco.

Discussions are said to be ongoing as the German club look to position themselves ahead of rival bidders, with negotiations focusing on how to reach an agreement with US Touarga, who still hold the player’s rights.

Standard de Liege make ‘very strong’ move

Standard de Liege have also made a firm approach for Bentayeb, according to Africafoot, and are considered serious contenders in the race for his signature.

The Belgian club have moved “in a very solid way” on the deal, but the battle for the striker remains open, with other clubs still in contention and weighing up formal offers.

Bentayeb’s market value is currently estimated at €8m, reflecting his prolific season in Ligue 2 and his development since emerging from the Academie Mohammed VI.

Turkish giants’ offers rejected

Bentayeb has additionally received lucrative proposals from Turkey, with Besiktas and Trabzonspor both submitting concrete offers for the forward.

Those bids are described as financially very attractive, yet the player is understood not to be keen on continuing his career in the Turkish league and is instead prioritising other options.

Despite the interest from the Super Lig, Bentayeb is focusing on potential moves elsewhere in Europe, with Germany and Belgium currently at the forefront of the discussions surrounding his future.

Rising stock after Troyes loan

Bentayeb’s performances for Troyes, where he finished as the leading scorer in Ligue 2, have significantly boosted his reputation on the European market.

Having come through the Academie Mohammed VI before joining US Touarga, his progress on loan in France has prompted clubs in several countries to consider investing in the forward at a valuation of around €8m.

With Augsburg pushing from the Bundesliga, Standard de Liege strongly positioned in Belgium, and Turkish giants Besiktas and Trabzonspor having already made their move, the next step in Bentayeb’s career is set to be decided amid intense competition for his signature.
