Rafael Louzan has insisted Spain should host the 2030 World Cup final, arguing that the country carries the largest share of the joint bid with Portugal and Morocco.
Louzan, president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, made the statement as Morocco continues to pursue the right to stage the tournament’s showpiece match on home soil. Spain is expected to host the majority of the matches at the World Cup, which will be jointly organised by the three countries.
Speaking at UEFA’s annual security conference in Madrid, Louzan said the tournament should become the finest edition in the competition’s history.
“We want the 2030 edition to be the best World Cup in history, which we will celebrate alongside Portugal and Morocco,” he said.
Louzan added, according to Spanish newspaper Marca on Tuesday: “Spain will be ready for a historic event and will present the world with a safe and unforgettable World Cup. We will host the majority of the matches and represent 55% of the strength of the bid, which is why Spain is the place where the final should be played.”
He also said Spain had every guarantee required to deliver a successful tournament.
“We have a full guarantee of security and the success of major football events,” Louzan said.
His comments underline the growing importance of the decision over where the 2030 final will take place. While the hosting arrangements for the wider tournament are shared between Spain, Portugal and Morocco, Morocco has made clear its ambition to stage the most prestigious fixture.
Louzan highlighted Spain’s record of organising major football competitions and events, as well as the achievements of its national teams across different tournaments. He said those successes, combined with the country’s experience of hosting high-profile occasions, demonstrated its suitability for the final.
“Spain is not just a great footballing nation, but it is also a country that offers the highest guarantees for the sport,” he said.
Spain has hosted a number of major UEFA matches and events in recent years. These include matches at UEFA Euro 2020, the UEFA Europa League finals in Seville in 2023 and Bilbao in 2025, and the UEFA Women’s Champions League final in Bilbao in 2024.
Madrid also staged the 2019 UEFA Champions League final at Metropolitano Stadium. The Spanish capital is due to host the competition’s final again in 2027 at the same venue, which Louzan described as another opportunity for Spain to successfully deliver one of the world’s most important sporting events.
Madrid is hosting UEFA’s annual security conference on 1 and 2 September. More than 500 representatives from clubs and national associations, along with security experts and delegates from all 55 UEFA member associations, are taking part.
