Senegal forward Nicolas Jackson was among the scorers as Bayern Munich broke a 54-year Bundesliga goalscoring record in a dominant victory over St Pauli.
The German champions set a new benchmark on Saturday after surpassing the long-standing record of 101 goals in a single Bundesliga season.
Leon Goretzka’s strike in the 53rd minute took Bayern to 102 goals, eclipsing the previous mark set during the 1971-72 campaign by a legendary Bayern side.
Just a minute later, Michael Olise added another goal to extend the tally further, underlining Bayern’s attacking dominance on the night.
By the final whistle, Vincent Kompany’s side had secured a comprehensive 5-0 victory, continuing their march towards yet another league title.
The highlight was the contribution of Senegal international Nicolas Jackson, who found the net to cap an impressive team performance.
Jackson’s goal marked an important moment for the forward, who returned to the starting line-up after missing the previous game due to suspension.
His strike added to Bayern’s growing tally and further boosted his personal statistics since joining the club.
Bayern had taken control of the match early on, with Jamal Musiala opening the scoring in the ninth minute. That goal drew them level with the historic 101-goal mark before Goretzka’s effort pushed them into record-breaking territory.
The celebrations that followed highlighted the magnitude of the achievement.
Goretzka was embraced by teammates, while goalkeeper and captain Manuel Neuer ran towards the bench to celebrate with substitutes and coaching staff.
Despite the attacking display, England striker Harry Kane, who has scored 31 league goals this season, was left on the bench as Bayern prioritised their upcoming UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against Real Madrid.
The record is particularly significant given how early it has been achieved. Bayern have reached the milestone with five matches still remaining in the Bundesliga season, giving them the opportunity to extend it even further.
They remain the only club in Bundesliga history to score 100 or more goals in a single season, having previously hit exactly 100 during the 2019-20 campaign.
With the title race nearing its conclusion, Bayern are on the verge of securing a record-extending 35th Bundesliga crown.
Their current form suggests they are peaking at the right time, both domestically and in Europe.
