Senegal name strong XI for crunch U17 AFCON quarter-final against Mali

Senegal have confirmed their starting lineup for the quarter-final clash against Mali at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations, with the Young Lions aiming to secure a place in the semi-finals of the continental tournament.

The highly anticipated encounter brings together two of West Africa’s traditional youth football powers in what is expected to be one of the standout matches of the competition.

Senegal head into the knockout stage determined to continue their impressive campaign after navigating a difficult group phase, while Mali arrive with similar ambitions and a strong reputation for producing technically gifted young talents.

For the decisive fixture, Senegal’s technical team has selected Assane Sarr in goal, with a defensive line made up of Cheikh Dieng, Cheikh Thior, Lamine Mbengue and Thierno Sow.

In midfield, Emile Niaga Sadio, Maurice Biaye and El Hadji Sow have been entrusted with controlling possession and providing balance in the centre of the pitch.

The attacking trio features Souleymane Commissaire Faye, Mouhamed Wagne and Cheikh Oumar Sy, as Senegal look to combine pace, creativity and attacking intensity against the Malian defence.

The announcement of the starting eleven has further increased anticipation surrounding the clash, especially given the strong rivalry between Senegalese and Malian football at youth level.

Meetings between the two nations are traditionally highly competitive, with both teams known for their athleticism, technical quality and tactical discipline.

For Senegal, the quarter-final represents another opportunity to showcase the progress of the country’s youth development system, which has produced several strong performances across different age categories in recent years.

With a place in the last four at stake, concentration and composure are expected to play a crucial role in what promises to be a tense and closely contested encounter.
