Antoine Semenyo has set his sights on winning more silverware with Manchester City after playing a key role in their 2-0 victory over Arsenal FC in the Carabao Cup Final at Wembley on Sunday.
The Ghana international impressed with an energetic display on the right flank, consistently troubling the Arsenal defence with his direct running and attacking intent. His performance helped City secure their ninth League Cup title, with a second-half brace from Nico O’Reilly sealing the win.
For Semenyo, the triumph marked a milestone moment, as he lifted the first trophy of his professional career shortly after joining the club in January. Speaking after the match, he expressed both excitement and ambition for what lies ahead.
“First of many! I’m excited, I’m happy. And many more to come!” he said.
The former AFC Bournemouth forward described his early spell at Manchester City as a “fairytale,” while emphasizing his determination to continue improving and contributing across multiple attacking roles.
“It feels like a fairytale if I’m honest. I feel like I have a lot more to show. I want to play wide, as a nine, and show how versatile I am, and just help the team as much as I can,” he added.
Semenyo also highlighted the creative freedom he enjoys under manager Pep Guardiola, noting that it allows him to take on defenders and influence the game in the final third.
“I have that freedom to do what I want, get at defenders and cause problems. That’s what I did today,” he said.
Reflecting on his journey to this point, the Ghanaian forward pointed to his faith as a guiding factor in his career progression. Looking ahead, he believes the Carabao Cup victory can serve as a catalyst for Manchester City’s push in the Premier League title race.
“I think it gives us a boost and confidence… we just have to do our job and hopefully finish off the job,” he noted.
With his first trophy secured and confidence growing, Semenyo now turns his attention to building on this success as Manchester City continue their pursuit of further honours this season.
