Ghana international Antoine Semenyo has become the first Ghanaian player to be selected in the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Premier League Team of the Year.
The Manchester City forward was named in the prestigious XI after an outstanding 2025/26 season, earning recognition from his fellow professional footballers for his performances during the campaign.
Semenyo is one of 11 players selected for the team, which is dominated by Arsenal and Manchester City. Arsenal have five representatives, while four Manchester City players feature in the side. Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes and Brentford striker Igor Thiago complete the lineup.
The recognition marks a significant achievement for Semenyo and adds another milestone to a season in which he established himself as one of the Premier League’s leading attacking players.
Semenyo’s inclusion follows a campaign in which he impressed with his performances at Bournemouth before making a move to Manchester City. His form and attacking ability helped him attract attention at the highest level of English football.
The Ghanaian’s selection also reflects the impact he had throughout the season, as he combined his explosive performances for Bournemouth with a successful transition to Manchester City.
His place in the PFA team alongside some of the league’s most prominent players underlines the quality of his campaign. He joins Manchester City team-mates Erling Haaland, Nico O’Reilly and Rayan Cherki in the XI.
Arsenal have the largest representation in the team, with goalkeeper David Raya joined by defenders Gabriel Magalhães, William Saliba and Jurriën Timber, as well as midfielder Declan Rice.
Fernandes is the only Manchester United player selected, while Thiago is Brentford’s representative.
The team features a strong attacking group, with Haaland, Semenyo and Thiago named as the three forwards. Semenyo’s selection alongside Haaland represents one of the biggest individual acknowledgements of his development during the 2025/26 campaign.
The PFA Premier League Team of the Year is particularly notable for Semenyo because the selection is made in recognition of performances by fellow professionals. His inclusion therefore represents acknowledgement from players competing at the same level.
For Ghana, Semenyo’s achievement is another landmark moment involving one of the country’s leading international players. He is now the first Ghanaian footballer to receive the distinction of being named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.
