Matvey Safonov received one of the lowest ratings in Paris St-Germain’s squad after their 2-2 draw with Rennes in the opening round of Ligue 1.
The Russian goalkeeper was given a score of 6.4 by performance-statistics website Sofascore after conceding twice before half-time. PSG fell 2-0 behind during the first period but recovered to claim a point.
Only three PSG players received lower ratings than Safonov. Lucas Hernandez was awarded 6.1, while Achraf Hakimi received 6.2 and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was also rated at 6.1.
Safonov’s assessment placed him among the lowest-performing members of the PSG team, despite the club eventually avoiding defeat after trailing by two goals. The draw was the first-round result for the Parisian side in this Ligue 1 campaign.
PSG’s comeback was driven by a brace from new signing Ferran Torres. The forward scored both of the visitors’ goals and was rated the best player in the PSG line-up, receiving a mark of 8.6 from Sofascore.
The result meant PSG left Rennes with one point after a match in which they had initially been in a difficult position. Their two-goal deficit was established before the interval, with Safonov beaten twice as the hosts took control of the contest.
The draw followed a mixed start to the season for PSG and Safonov. With the Russian goalkeeper in the side, the club had previously won the UEFA Super Cup, but they lost the equivalent domestic trophy in France.
Safonov’s rating against Rennes was therefore notably below that of Torres, whose two goals secured PSG’s recovery. The goalkeeper’s 6.4 was also short of the marks awarded to most of his team-mates, with Hernandez, Hakimi and Kvaratskhelia the only PSG players rated lower.
PSG’s ability to come back from 2-0 down ensured they did not begin the Ligue 1 campaign with a defeat. However, the match also highlighted the uneven performances within their team, with Safonov and three outfield players receiving the lowest scores according to Sofascore.
Torres’ contribution ultimately proved decisive in rescuing the point. His 8.6 rating was the highest among PSG players, while Safonov’s position near the bottom of the rankings reflected the two goals conceded during the first half.
