Real Madrid reject Dortmund approach for Brahim Diaz

Moroccan forward remains integral to Madrid’s squad amid transfer speculation

Real Madrid have confirmed that Moroccan international Brahim Diaz will not be sold this summer, despite growing interest from Borussia Dortmund. The decision comes as part of the club’s strategic plan to retain key squad members for the 2026 season.

Reports indicate that Dortmund recently approached Real Madrid to discuss the potential signing of Diaz, 26, viewing him as a player who fits their tactical philosophy and long-term sporting ambitions. However, sources close to the club have stressed that Diaz remains a vital component of Madrid’s squad and will not be made available for transfer.

Diaz as a versatile squad asset

According to information obtained by Defensa Central, Real Madrid regards Diaz as an influential figure both on and off the pitch. With 22 international caps, he has been described as an “emergency man” capable of covering absences among the team’s attacking line.

This season, for example, Diaz has been called upon to fill gaps left by key players such as Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham. His adaptability allows him to perform in multiple roles, making him a critical option for manager Carlo Ancelotti during periods of injury or rotation.

The network also reported that inside sources at the Valdebebas offices emphasized the club’s determination to retain Diaz, despite recent media speculation linking him to a move to the Bundesliga.

Career path and achievements

Brahim Diaz first joined Real Madrid from Manchester City in early 2019 for €17 million, before immediately going on a three-season loan to AC Milan, where he honed his skills in Serie A.

After returning to Madrid in 2023, Diaz has taken on increasingly important roles, contributing to the club’s recent successes, which include a Champions League title, the European Super Cup, the Club World Cup, and two La Liga championships.

In the 2023-2024 season, Diaz recorded his most productive campaign, scoring 12 goals and providing 10 assists. This season, however, his output has declined slightly, with one goal and six assists recorded so far.

Strategic retention

Real Madrid’s stance underlines the club’s commitment to maintaining squad depth and flexibility. With key players potentially unavailable due to injury or fixture congestion, Diaz’s versatility and experience make him indispensable.

Despite Dortmund’s interest, Madrid’s decision signals that they view Diaz as more than a rotation player, positioning him as a central figure in their pursuit of domestic and European success in the 2026 campaign.
