RB Leipzig target Diego Moreira as replacement for Real Madrid-bound Diomande

RB Leipzig are considering Strasbourg’s Diego Moreira as the replacement for Diomande, who completed a move to Spain last week after joining Real Madrid for a reported record fee of €125m.

According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Leipzig have reached an agreement in principle with the 21-year-old Belgian international over a potential transfer. However, negotiations between the two clubs remain complicated, with the gap in their respective valuations currently the main obstacle to a deal.

The Bundesliga club view Moreira as a direct successor to Diomande and are working to establish whether an agreement can be reached with Strasbourg. While the player is understood to have agreed terms in principle with Leipzig, the two clubs have yet to resolve the financial details of the proposed move.

Foot Mercato also reports that there is a significant difference between the salary expectations involved. That disparity makes a short-term agreement appear unlikely, although the report does not give specific figures for either the player’s demands or the maximum fee Leipzig are prepared to pay.

Moreira, who is 21 and represents Belgium internationally, remains at Strasbourg while the discussions continue. Leipzig’s interest follows the departure of Diomande, who signed for Real Madrid on a contract running until 2033.

The Spanish club’s initial payment for Diomande is reported to be €125m, a record transfer fee. The overall value of the deal could rise to €140m if the agreed bonuses are achieved.

Leipzig’s pursuit of Moreira therefore depends on whether the German club can bridge both the transfer-fee gap with Strasbourg and the difference in salary expectations. For now, those unresolved issues mean the move is not close to completion, despite the reported understanding between Leipzig and the player.

No specific details have been disclosed about how much Leipzig are willing to pay, leaving the financial terms as the central question in the negotiations. Strasbourg’s position and Moreira’s salary requirements will both need to be settled before a transfer can progress.
