Rafael Leao completes €45m move from AC Milan to Galatasaray

Rafael Leao has officially left AC Milan to join Turkish Super Lig club Galatasaray in a permanent transfer worth €45m.

The transfer fee, initially reported at €45m, has now been confirmed. The move brings an end to Leao’s seven-year spell with Milan, during which the striker became an important figure in the club’s successful domestic campaigns.

AC Milan confirmed the deal in an official statement, saying: “AC Milan announces the permanent transfer of Rafael Leao to Galatasaray Sports Club. The club thanks Rafa for the professionalism and passion he has shown in a Milan shirt over the past seven seasons, making a huge contribution to the team winning the Serie A title in the 2021/22 season and the Coppa Italia in 2024. We wish Rafa all the best in this new chapter of his career, both in his personal life and professionally.”

Leao joined Milan from Lille in 2019 and went on to make 291 appearances for the Italian club. He scored 80 goals and provided 65 assists during his time at San Siro, contributing directly to 145 goals across all competitions.

His spell in Milan included two major domestic trophies. He helped the club win the Serie A title in the 2021/22 season and was also part of the team that lifted the Coppa Italia in 2024.

Leao’s individual achievements also included one Italian Player of the Year award and one Season’s Best Player award. AC Milan’s statement highlighted his professionalism and commitment while acknowledging the contribution he made during his time in the club’s colours.

The €45m agreement marks a significant new stage in Leao’s career, with the forward now set to continue his career in Turkiye with Galatasaray. His departure was formally completed after Milan announced the permanent transfer to the Turkish club.

For Milan, the move closes a long association with a player who arrived from Lille in 2019 and established himself over 291 appearances. For Galatasaray, the confirmed arrival of Leao adds a proven goalscorer and provider to their squad, although the source article does not provide details of his contract or debut.

The transfer announcement also marks the conclusion of Leao’s involvement with Milan after seven seasons, two domestic trophies and a series of individual honours. The club’s farewell message wished him success both professionally and personally in the next chapter of his career.
