Pyramids FC salute Mayele after DR Congo’s World Cup breakthrough

Egyptian club Pyramids FC have congratulated their striker Fiston Mayele and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) national team following their historic qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The club paid tribute to the Congolese forward after the Leopards secured a long-awaited return to the global stage with a 1-0 victory over Jamaica in an intercontinental play-off in Mexico on 31 March 2026.

The result confirmed DR Congo’s place at the World Cup for the first time in 52 years, having last appeared at the tournament in 1974.

In a message shared publicly, Pyramids FC expressed pride in having Mayele within their ranks, recognising his role in one of the most significant achievements in the country’s football history.

The club also extended its congratulations to the Congolese Football Federation for guiding the team back to the world stage after decades of absence.

“The World Cup calls… Fiston responds. 🏆🇨🇩”

The statement underlined the importance of Mayele’s contribution to the national team, with the striker regarded as one of Africa’s standout performers following his recognition as the continent’s best player in 2025.

DR Congo’s qualification has been widely celebrated across Africa, with the achievement seen as a major milestone for a nation that has long sought to re-establish itself among the world’s elite.

Under the leadership of French coach Sébastien Desabre, the Leopards navigated a challenging path to secure their place at the expanded 2026 tournament, which will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Their victory over Jamaica proved decisive in sealing qualification, with a disciplined performance ensuring the narrow win needed to book their ticket.

The result not only ended a 52-year wait but also reaffirmed the progress made by the team in recent years.

For Pyramids FC, Mayele’s involvement adds to the club’s growing reputation for nurturing top African talent.

His presence in the national team and contribution to this historic success highlights both his individual quality and the strength of African players competing across different leagues.

The Congolese side have now been placed in Group Eleven for the World Cup, where they will face Portugal, Uzbekistan and Colombia.

The draw presents a fresh challenge, but qualification alone is already being regarded as a significant achievement for the Central African nation.

As celebrations continue, attention will gradually shift towards preparations for the tournament itself.
