Pyramids FC have not opened negotiations with Zamalek left-back Ahmed Fatouh despite reports linking the Egypt international with a move to the club.
Sources told Winwin.com that Pyramids have no discussions with the defender over a possible transfer, while a source close to Fatouh also confirmed that there have been no talks between the player and the Egyptian club.
Fatouh’s current contract with Zamalek expires at the end of the season, meaning he will be able to negotiate with other clubs during the January transfer window before potentially leaving the Cairo club as a free agent when his agreement expires.
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Fatouh has no objection to remaining at Zamalek and extending his contract.
The 27-year-old is regarded as one of the club’s players and a leader within the squad. He had previously signed a contract extension at the beginning of the current board’s tenure under chairman Hussein Labib.
However, Zamalek have yet to begin formal discussions with the player over a new agreement.
Zamalek delay renewal talks
The club’s management is currently waiting for its financial position to improve before opening negotiations over Fatouh’s future.
Zamalek are understood to want sufficient financial liquidity before committing to a new contract for the Egypt international. Discussions could potentially begin during the next international break.
The expected arrival of a new sporting director could also influence the process.
Zamalek want the incoming sporting director to have significant experience and strong negotiating abilities, particularly when dealing with player contracts. That appointment could therefore lead to a restructuring of the club’s approach to renewals, including the situation surrounding Fatouh.
For now, however, there has been no formal movement towards extending the left-back’s stay.
Fatouh’s recent absence has also attracted attention. He missed Zamalek’s previous two matches after suffering from illness and poisoning.
The club’s treasurer, Hossam El-Mandouh, rejected suggestions that Fatouh had been left out of the most recent match because of unpaid financial dues.
His contract situation is therefore separate from the reason for his recent absence, with the player still under contract until the conclusion of the current season.
Why Pyramids are not pursuing Fatouh
Pyramids’ decision not to negotiate with Fatouh is also influenced by the options they already have in the left-back position.
The club currently has Karim Hafez, another Egypt international, available in that position.
Hafez was part of Egypt’s squad at the 2026 World Cup and appeared in three matches during the tournament. He played a total of 172 minutes and provided one assist without scoring.
Pyramids are also close to welcoming back another international left-back, Mohamed Hamdi.
Hamdi has been recovering from a torn cruciate ligament suffered while representing Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations in January.
His anticipated return would give Pyramids another established option in the position and further reduce the need to pursue Fatouh.
The situation leaves Fatouh’s future primarily dependent on what happens between him and Zamalek rather than on a move to Pyramids.
While the defender is free to consider offers from other clubs from January, his current position is that he would be willing to continue with Zamalek if an agreement can be reached.
Zamalek, meanwhile, are delaying the start of those negotiations until their financial circumstances improve and the club’s sporting structure is settled.
The arrival of a new sporting director could be particularly important, as the club looks to appoint someone capable of managing contract renewals and negotiations with its players.
For Pyramids, the existing presence of Hafez and the expected return of Hamdi means there is currently little reason to add another international left-back.
As a result, reports linking Fatouh with Pyramids do not reflect any negotiations taking place between the player and the club, according to the sources cited by Winwin.com.
