Paris Saint-Germain have pulled out of the race to sign RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande, clearing the way for Real Madrid to become strong favourites for the Ivory Coast international’s signature this summer.
The French champions have decided to break off negotiations after concluding that the conditions set by RB Leipzig did not meet the club’s expectations, according to journalist Fabrice Hawkins. PSG now regard the deal as definitively off the table for this transfer window.
Club executives in Paris were also left uneasy by the behaviour of those around the player during talks. While an agreement had initially appeared close with Diomande’s representatives, their stance is understood to have shifted late in the process, a change of position that did not go down well with the PSG hierarchy.
With PSG stepping away, Real Madrid are seen as the leading contenders to sign one of Europe’s most in-demand young wide players. Barring an unexpected twist, Diomande is no longer expected to join the Ligue 1 champions in the current transfer window.
Leipzig contract and rising valuation
Diomande is under contract with RB Leipzig until 30 June 2030, giving the Bundesliga club a strong negotiating position over any potential transfer. His long-term deal reflects the growing importance of the Ivorian in Leipzig’s plans and helps explain the high level of demands that contributed to PSG’s withdrawal.
The 21-year-old’s market value is currently estimated at €90m by Transfermarkt, underlining his status as one of the most coveted players in Europe. That valuation places him among the most expensive attacking prospects outside the very top bracket of established stars.
Diomande’s performances have enhanced his reputation over the past season, with his progress at club level mirrored by his role with the Ivory Coast national team. His combination of pace, one-on-one ability and end product has attracted the attention of several leading European clubs, with Real Madrid now positioned at the front of the queue.
Salary and status
At Leipzig, Diomande earns €750,000 per year, equivalent to 487,500,000 FCFA. That salary level is modest compared with the wages typically offered by Europe’s financial heavyweights, reinforcing the likelihood that any successful bid from a major club would be accompanied by a significant pay rise for the player.
For now, Diomande remains a Leipzig player, tied to a long-term contract and with his stock continuing to rise.
