Orlando Pirates will measure themselves against Saudi Pro League heavyweights Al-Ittihad on Tuesday evening in what is being billed as their sternest pre-season examination so far.
The South African side, currently on a European training camp, will play their third of five warm-up fixtures at the Marbella Football Center in Spain, with kick-off set for 19:00 (local time).
Head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has signalled a clear shift from experimentation to cohesion-building, restoring last season’s regulars to the starting line-up and leaving several new recruits on the bench or out of the squad altogether.
The match will be broadcast live on Orlando Pirates’ YouTube channel as well as on pay-TV platform SuperSport, on channel 209.
Strong line-up named for Spanish showdown
Ouaddou has gone with a full-strength XI as the Buccaneers look to sharpen their preparations for the upcoming Betway Premiership campaign, which begins shortly with a league opener against Kruger United.
Sipho Chaine starts in goal, with captain Nkosinathi Sibisi leading the backline alongside Lebone Seema, Nkosikhona Ndaba and Deano Van Rooyen.
The midfield and attacking unit features Sihle Nduli, Thalente Mbatha, Patrick Maswanganyi, Oswin Appollis, Tshepang Moremi and Evidence Makgopa.
On the bench, Siyabonga Dladla (GK), Tapelo Xoki, Sbangani Zulu, Deon Hotto, Kamohelo Sebelebele, Simphiwe Selepe, Abdoulaye Mariko, Simphiwe Masilela, Bohlale Ngwato, Mpho Padime and Yanela Mbuthuma are available as substitutes.
Ouaddou’s selection underlines the importance of this fixture in fine-tuning what he believes will be his strongest matchday group heading into the new domestic season.

The clash with Al-Ittihad comes after a solid start to Pirates’ tour of Europe.
