New York City FC (NYCFC) have denied holding any discussions with Mohamed Salah, despite growing speculation linking the Liverpool forward with a move to the Major League Soccer.
Club president Brad Sims confirmed there has been no contact with the Egyptian international or his representatives, though he acknowledged admiration for the player as Salah prepares to leave Liverpool after a nine-year spell at Anfield.
Salah recently confirmed he will depart the Premier League club, bringing to an end a highly successful period marked by major trophies, individual accolades and record-breaking performances.
His impending exit has fuelled widespread interest in his next destination, with clubs across multiple leagues reportedly monitoring the situation.
Speaking in comments reported by journalist Ben Jacobs, Sims addressed the rumours directly.
“I would love to sign Mohamed Salah but we have not had any conversations with him or his representatives” Sims said
While expressing clear interest, Sims stressed that New York City FC would not attempt to persuade players to join the club. Instead, he underlined the importance of players having a genuine desire to play in Major League Soccer and to live in New York.
“The most important thing is the player’s desire to join the league and be in New York City” .. “We will not try to convince any player about the city, the league or our club. We want players who truly want to be here”
Sims also highlighted the importance of professionalism and team dynamics when assessing potential recruits, indicating that factors beyond reputation play a crucial role in decision-making.
“We need players who are committed in training, treat teammates well and contribute positively to the dressing room and the club’s culture. We study profiles carefully, not just big names” Sims added.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Salah is expected to remain one of the most sought-after players on the market. His next move could see him continue competing at the highest level in European football, or pursue a financially lucrative opportunity elsewhere.
Among the options being discussed is a potential switch to the Saudi Pro League, which has attracted several high-profile players in recent years.
For now, however, New York City FC have made their position clear: while Salah would be welcomed, any move would depend on the player’s own intentions rather than active pursuit from the club.
With uncertainty surrounding his future, Salah’s next step is likely to remain a major talking point in the months ahead.
