Goalkeeper highlights team spirit ahead of Saudi Arabia and Spain friendlies
Mohamed Alaa has underlined the sense of unity within the Egypt national football team, insisting that allegiance inside the squad is directed solely towards the country as preparations intensify for the upcoming World Cup.
The El Gouna goalkeeper, who has recently joined the national setup, expressed his satisfaction at being part of the squad during the current international break. Egypt are set to play friendly matches against Saudi Arabia and Spain as part of their build-up to the global tournament.
Speaking to ON Sport, Alaa praised the efforts of the coaching staff and their attention to domestic competitions. He said: “I thank the technical staff for following all the league teams and working hard, and I hope it will be a good start for the national team before the World Cup.”
Message of unity from senior players
Alaa revealed that senior figures within the squad have played a key role in integrating new players. He pointed to the influence of Mohamed El Shenawy, who addressed the group early on.
He said: “El Shenawy gathered the new players and said that we are all one family and there is no loyalty in the national team except to Egypt.”
The message reflects an emphasis on collective identity as Egypt seek to strengthen cohesion ahead of a demanding schedule.
Competition seen as a positive force
The goalkeeper also spoke about the level of competition within the squad, particularly in his position. He highlighted conversations with head coach Hossam Hassan and goalkeeping coach Saafan Al-Saghir.
Alaa said: “Hossam Hassan and Saafan Al-Saghir told me that I am competing with top goalkeepers in the national team, and that strong competition always benefits the Egyptian national team.”
Egypt’s goalkeeping options include several experienced players, underlining the challenge faced by new entrants aiming to secure a place in the starting line-up.
Friendlies treated as competitive fixtures
Looking ahead to the upcoming matches, Alaa stressed their importance despite their friendly status.
He said: ” We will play friendly matches against Saudi Arabia and Spain, but for us these matches are official and they mark the beginning of Egypt’s participation in the World Cup. I will always try to be with the Egyptian national team in the coming period .”
Egypt are scheduled to face Saudi Arabia on 27 March at Al-Inma Stadium in Jeddah, before taking on Spain on 31 March at the RCDE Stadium.
Preparations intensify ahead of global tournament
These fixtures form part of Egypt’s preparations for the World Cup, which is set to take place in the United States, Canada and Mexico next June. The team has been drawn in Group G alongside Belgium, Iran and New Zealand.
The squad selected for the upcoming matches reflects a blend of domestic and international experience, with players drawn from clubs across Egypt, Europe and the Middle East.
Focus on cohesion and readiness
As Egypt step up their preparations, Alaa’s comments underline the importance placed on unity, competition and readiness within the squad.
With high expectations surrounding the team, the upcoming friendlies offer an opportunity to build momentum and refine combinations before the tournament begins. For Alaa, the challenge will be to establish himself within a competitive group while contributing to a collective goal that extends beyond individual ambitions.
