Newcastle United forward Nick Woltemade has joined Juventus on loan for the entire 2026-27 season, with the Serie A club reportedly paying an initial €2.8m (£1.7m) for the agreement.
The move comes only 12 months after Newcastle signed Woltemade from Stuttgart for £69m (€80.5m). The Germany international was brought to St James’ Park as a replacement for Alexander Isak, but his first season at the club ultimately failed to maintain the promise of its opening weeks.
Woltemade made an immediate impression on his Newcastle debut by scoring against the club’s first opponents. That achievement made him only the third German player to score on his Premier League debut.
The two Germany internationals to have previously reached that landmark were Jurgen Klinsmann, who did so in August 1994, and Ilkay Gundogan, who scored on his debut in September 2016.
However, Woltemade could not sustain that early form throughout the campaign. He ended last season with 11 goals in 51 appearances for Newcastle, while his scoring output declined significantly after the turn of the year.
The 24-year-old managed only two goals from the beginning of January onwards, contributing to uncertainty over his position in Newcastle’s plans for the new season. He will now continue his career in Italy with Juventus, who have been seeking an additional attacking option.
Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti had reportedly been frustrated by the form of Randal Kolo Muani, increasing the need for another forward. Woltemade’s arrival gives the Bianconeri an alternative in attack for the 2026-27 campaign.
The German forward’s transfer to Juventus is part of a busy period for the Italian club. Juventus also completed the signing of midfielder Pape Matar Sarr earlier on deadline day.
For Newcastle, the loan arrangement provides Woltemade with the opportunity to regain consistency and confidence after a difficult period in front of goal. For Juventus, it offers a chance to add a player who arrived in England with a strong reputation and initially showed an ability to make an immediate impact in the Premier League.
Woltemade’s first season at Newcastle began with a notable personal milestone, but his reduced scoring return in the second half of the campaign has now led to a temporary move away from St James’ Park. He will spend the coming season with Juventus, who have agreed the initial loan payment with Newcastle.
