Super Falcons defender Chidinma Okeke joins Napoli on two-year deal
Nigeria defender Chidinma Okeke has joined Italian club Napoli Women from Mexican side América Femenil on a two-year contract.
The 26-year-old central defender has signed a deal that will keep her at Napoli until June 2028, beginning a new chapter in her club career after two seasons in Mexico.
Okeke’s move gives the Super Falcons defender an opportunity to continue her career in European football after spells in Mexico and Japan.
Napoli confirmed the transfer, with the Italian club welcoming the Nigerian international to its women’s team.
Okeke said she was pleased with her early experience at the club and is eager to contribute to the team during the new season.
“I’m happy with my first few days here. I’ve met the coach, the staff, and my teammates, and it’s been fantastic. My goal for this season? To give my all together with the team,” Okeke told the club’s official website.
The move to Italy comes after a productive spell with América Femenil, where Okeke spent two seasons following her arrival from Japanese club Mynavi Sendai Ladies in 2024.
Her time in Mexico also brought success at continental level.
Okeke was part of the América Femenil side that won the CONCACAF Champions Cup during the 2025/26 season, adding an international club honour to her career.
The defender’s move to Napoli therefore represents another step in a career that has taken her across three different footballing countries.
Before moving into senior international football, Okeke developed through Nigeria’s youth national teams.
She represented the Flamingos, Nigeria’s women’s Under-17 side, at the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Two years later, she was included in Nigeria’s squad for the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, continuing her progression through the country’s youth ranks.
Her performances at youth level eventually led to involvement with the senior national team.
Okeke earned a place in Nigeria’s squad for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, marking an important stage in her development with the Super Falcons.
She was also selected for Nigeria’s squad at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, adding another major international tournament to her experience.
The defender now takes that experience to Napoli as she begins her first season with the Italian club.Her career has already included football in Japan and Mexico, while her latest move takes her to one of Europe’s established footballing nations.
For Nigeria, Okeke remains part of a generation of Super Falcons players gaining experience in different leagues outside Africa.
Her journey from Nigeria’s youth teams to senior international tournaments and now to Italy highlights a career that has continued to develop across several football environments.
