Pitso Mosimane will unveil his first final Bafana Bafana squad since returning as South Africa head coach on Thursday, SAFA has confirmed.
Mosimane was appointed earlier in September, returning to the national team for a second spell after succeeding Belgian coach Hugo Broos.
His first assignment will come on September 23, when Bafana face Guinea before travelling to take on Eritrea four days later.
Kenya, who are co-hosting the tournament, complete the group.
Mosimane initially named a 35-player provisional squad for the fixtures, with several unfamiliar names included as he assessed his options ahead of his return to the national team.
The final squad will be announced on Thursday, with attention now turning to which of those players will survive the cut.
The new additions to the provisional selection were Yanela Mbuthuma, Cemran Dansin, Tshepo Mashiloane, Puso Dithejane, Shandre Campbell, Lebone Seema, Tashreeq Matthews, Ronaldo Van Neel and Lebohang Maboe.
Their inclusion represented an early indication of Mosimane’s willingness to look beyond the players who featured regularly under Broos.
However, all nine will have to wait until Thursday to discover whether they have done enough to earn a place in the final squad.
The Guinea fixture will mark the beginning of Mosimane’s second stint in charge of Bafana, having previously guided the national team before moving into a highly successful club coaching career, including spells with Mamelodi Sundowns and Egyptian giants Al Ahly.
With his first competitive assignments approaching, Thursday’s squad announcement will provide the clearest indication yet of the players Mosimane intends to build around as he begins his new era with South Africa.
