Morocco have moved up to sixth place in the latest FIFA world rankings following their impressive performance at the 2026 World Cup, strengthening their position as Africa’s highest-ranked national team.
The Atlas Lions climbed one place from seventh to sixth after earning 1,803.99 points in the updated rankings released by FIFA after the tournament.
Their rise follows a strong World Cup campaign in which Morocco competed against some of the world’s leading teams before eventually being eliminated in the quarter-finals.
The ranking improvement represents another milestone in the continued growth of Moroccan football, with the North African side maintaining their status among the global elite.
Morocco entered the latest rankings in seventh position with 1,755 points in the previous FIFA release on 11 June 2026.
Their performances during the World Cup earned them an additional 48.99 points, allowing them to overtake their previous position and move into the top six.

At continental level, Morocco remain the number one ranked team in Africa.
They sit ahead of Senegal, who are ranked 18th globally, followed by Egypt in 24th place, Nigeria in 26th, Algeria in 29th and Côte d’Ivoire in 31st.

The Atlas Lions have also retained their position as the top-ranked Arab national team. They are ahead of Egypt, Algeria, Tunisia, Saudi Arabia and Qatar in the global rankings.
