Morocco learn AFCON 2027 qualifying opponents

Morocco national football team have been drawn in Group A of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers alongside Gabon, Niger and Lesotho  following Tuesday’s draw conducted by Confederation of African Football in Cairo.

The qualification campaign will determine the teams that advance to the 2027 AFCON finals, which will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda between June 19 and July 17, 2027.

Morocco enter the qualifiers as one of Africa’s strongest sides following recent continental and World Cup success, and will be expected to top the group despite potentially difficult away fixtures against Gabon, Niger and Lesotho.

The qualifying competition features 48 national teams divided into 12 groups, with the top two sides from each group progressing to the tournament finals. Although the three host nations have already secured qualification automatically, they will still participate in the qualifiers for competitive preparation.

Among the standout groups from the draw, defending African champions Ivory Coast national football team were placed in Group C alongside Ghana national football team, Gambia national football team and Somalia national football team.

Elsewhere, Senegal national football team will face Mozambique national football team, Sudan national football team and Ethiopia national football team in Group J.

Traditional continental powers including Algeria national football team, Nigeria national football team and Cameroon national football team also learned their qualifying paths as Africa’s race toward AFCON 2027 officially begins.
