Chelsea have made England forward Morgan Rogers the second most expensive signing in Premier League history – and he has immediately inflamed rivalry by declaring the Blues “the biggest club in London”.
The 23-year-old has joined from Aston Villa in a deal worth about £117m (€138m), according to multiple English media reports, and has signed a contract at Stamford Bridge until 2033.
Rogers will link up with new head coach Xabi Alonso’s squad ahead of the new season, after Chelsea beat Arsenal to his signature during the summer transfer window.
The fee places Rogers behind only Alexander Isak in the Premier League’s all-time list. The Sweden striker moved from Newcastle United to Liverpool last summer for £125m.
Arsenal beaten to in-demand England star
Arsenal were widely reported as the frontrunners to sign Rogers and had made him a key attacking target this summer.
However, Chelsea stepped in to conclude the deal, securing one of England’s most highly rated young forwards and dealing a blow to their London rivals’ transfer plans.

He declared: “انا متحمس للغاية. بالنسبة لي، تشيلسي هو اكبر ناد في لندن، لطالما اعجبت به منذ ان كنت طفلا”.
He added: “انا متحمس للغاية للمشروع مع المدرب الجديد، واللاعبين الذين لدينا، والوجهة التي يتجه اليها النادي. لهذا السبب انا هنا، ولا اطيق الانتظار لبدء العمل”.
The remarks are likely to provoke a reaction from Arsenal supporters, with both fanbases frequently clashing over which club can legitimately claim to be London’s biggest.
Long-term bet under Xabi Alonso
Rogers’ contract running until 2033 underlines Chelsea’s continued strategy of investing heavily in young talent on long-term deals.
He will form part of Xabi Alonso’s first Chelsea squad, with the Spanish coach tasked with moulding a youthful, expensively assembled side into Premier League and European contenders.
