Mohamed Salah has completed his move to Turkish club Trabzonspor, beginning a new chapter in his career after leaving Liverpool at the end of last season.
The Egypt forward has signed a two-year contract with Trabzonspor, according to Turkish newspaper AKSAM, which has also reported details of a significant commercial clause in the agreement.
Salah is set to earn an annual salary of 17m euros during his time with the Turkish club. The contract also includes a provision entitling him to 20% of the revenue generated from products sold by Trabzonspor that carry his name or image.
The agreement marks the first move of Salah’s career since his departure from Liverpool, where he spent nine years and established himself as one of the club’s most successful players in both individual and team terms.
His transfer to Trabzonspor makes the Turkish side the seventh club of Salah’s senior career. Before joining the club, he played for Al Mokawloon Al Arab, Basel, Chelsea, Fiorentina, Roma and Liverpool.
Salah began his career in Egypt with Al Mokawloon Al Arab before moving to Europe and joining Swiss club Basel. His career then took him to England with Chelsea, followed by spells in Italy at Fiorentina and Roma, before he moved to Liverpool.
The forward’s nine-year stay at Anfield came to an end at the conclusion of last season. During that period, he became a central figure in Liverpool’s campaign and added major team and individual achievements to his record.
Trabzonspor’s agreement with Salah also follows discussions he held with another Turkish club earlier in the current summer transfer window. The player entered negotiations with Besiktas, but the proposed move did not go ahead because the two sides were unable to agree on the financial details of the contract.
Instead, Salah has now finalised his transfer to Trabzonspor, with the two-year deal and merchandise arrangement forming the key terms reported by AKSAM.
The 20% clause applies to sales of products featuring either Salah’s name or his image, giving the player a direct share of revenue from those items during his contract with the Turkish club. His annual salary is reported separately as 17m euros.
The move concludes the latest stage of Salah’s career in England and opens a new spell in Turkey with Trabzonspor. It also means the Egypt international will continue his career at a seventh club after previously representing sides in Egypt, Switzerland, England and Italy.
