Mikayil Faye: Senegal defender at Stade Rennais linked with 1.FC Nuremberg move

Senegal centre-back Mikayil Faye of Stade Rennais is being linked with a summer move to 1.FC Nuremberg in Germany’s 2. Bundesliga. The 22-year-old, who is under contract with the Ligue 1 club until June 2028, is attracting interest as the Bavarian side look to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the new campaign.

Faye’s potential switch would come two years after he joined Rennes from Barcelona in a deal worth around €10.3 million. His current market value is estimated at €4.5 million, a figure likely to form the basis of any negotiations should Nuremberg decide to formalise their interest.

Last season Faye spent part of the campaign on loan at Cremonese in Serie A, making eight league appearances in Italy before returning to Roazhon Park at the end of June. He has featured 12 times in Ligue 1 for Rennes, adding to senior experience that also includes regular game time in Spain’s third tier and Croatia’s second division earlier in his career.

Born in Sedhiou in July 2004, the left-footed defender has developed a reputation for his versatility across the back line, having progressed from Diambars FC in Senegal to European football via NK Kustosija and Barcelona’s reserve set-up before his move to France.

Rennes face no immediate pressure to sell given the length of Faye’s contract, and any deal with Nuremberg would likely hinge on the German side meeting the French club’s valuation of the player.
