Metz reward French-Guinean talent Nassoko with first pro deal

FC Metz have continued their commitment to youth development by handing a first professional contract to French-Guinean defender Abdoulaye Nassoko.

The 18-year-old centre-back has signed a three-year deal that will keep him at the Ligue club until 2029, marking a major milestone in his emerging career.

Nassoko becomes the third academy player in recent weeks to be promoted to the senior ranks, following similar deals for Adam Marchal and Nathan Mbala.

The move highlights a growing trend within the club’s system, where young talents are being fast-tracked into professional football.

For African football observers, Nassoko’s rise is another example of diaspora talent progressing through European academies while maintaining links to their heritage.

Born in France and of Guinean descent, the defender has already represented France at youth level, featuring across multiple age categories from Under-16 to Under-18.

His journey began in Meurthe-et-Moselle, where he developed at US Vandoeuvre before moving to AS Nancy-Lorraine.

A switch to Metz in 2023 proved decisive, as he quickly established himself as one of the academy’s standout prospects.

Described as powerful, athletic and strong in duels, Nassoko’s profile fits the mould of a modern central defender.

His physical presence and composure have set him apart, earning recognition from coaches and accelerating his pathway into the professional setup.

In a statement announcing the deal, Metz praised both the player’s progress and the work of their academy, noting that his contract “rewards the hard work put in by the player as well as the daily dedication of the youth academy staff.”

The club also emphasised that the signing reflects its broader philosophy of trusting and investing in young players.

Speaking after signing his contract, Nassoko expressed both pride and gratitude at reaching the milestone.

“It is a great source of pride for me to join FC Metz for the next three seasons. This is an important step in my life, one that I have fought hard for.

“Thank you to the club for their confidence, as well as to my family, coaches, agents, and loved ones for their daily support. I can’t wait to begin this new adventure and continue to give my all.”

His progression comes at a time when European clubs are increasingly looking to nurture homegrown talent rather than rely solely on transfers.

For Metz, promoting academy players not only strengthens squad depth but also reinforces the club’s identity as a breeding ground for future stars.

While Nassoko’s immediate focus will be on adapting to the demands of professional football, his development will be closely watched both in France and in Guinea, where players of dual heritage often face decisions about their international future.
