Al Ahli Saudi are preparing for crucial talks with head coach Matthias Jaissle in the coming days, with the German’s future at the club finally expected to be clarified after months of uncertainty.
Jaissle’s contract situation has become one of the most complex issues inside the Jeddah club since the end of last season. The dispute is not understood to centre on salary, but on specific clauses in the deal – most notably the penalty and release provisions – which the coach believes do not strike a fair balance between the two parties.

The 36-year-old declined to enter into any formal discussions while the camp was ongoing, preferring to postpone talks about his future until after the completion of pre-season preparations. His stance was motivated, according to the report, by a desire to avoid disrupting his own focus or that of the players at a key stage of build-up to the new season.
Saudi media figure Mohammed Al Bukairi reported that Jaissle’s refusal to negotiate in Portugal should not be interpreted as closing the door on an agreement. On the contrary, Jaissle is said to have agreed to hold a meeting with the executive management once the team returns to Jeddah.
That commitment has offered Al Ahli fresh hope that the negotiations can be revived and potentially steered towards a settlement acceptable to both sides.
Pivotal meeting for both club and coach
The forthcoming talks are viewed as highly significant for all parties. The Al Ahli board want to secure the continuity of a coach they credit with returning the club to continental success, while Jaissle is seeking a contract that provides him with long-term stability and full trust in the project, without clauses he feels could unduly restrict his future options.
