Matarazzo believes Guedes should have won Real Sociedad a penalty against Celta

Real Sociedad manager Pellegrino Matarazzo said Goncalo Guedes should have been awarded a penalty after the winger went down following contact with Celta defender Alvaro Nunez in the sides’ goalless La Liga draw.

“For me, it is a penalty,” Matarazzo said when discussing the incident involving Guedes.

The match was a rearranged fixture from the sixth round of the Spanish top flight and ended 0-0, leaving Real Sociedad with four points from their opening four matches.

The San Sebastian side had appealed for a spot-kick after Guedes’ fall in an incident involving Nunez. However, no penalty was awarded, and neither side managed to find a goal during the contest.

Matarazzo’s comments focused on the decision not to punish the contact with a penalty, while the final score left Real Sociedad with only four points from the four matches they have played.

The result means Real Sociedad are 11th in the league table. The team includes Arsen Zakharyan, who is part of the squad coached by Matarazzo.

The fixture had originally been scheduled for the sixth round of La Liga before being postponed. Once it was played, neither Real Sociedad nor Celta could break the deadlock, with the match finishing without a goal for either side.

For Real Sociedad, the draw brought their points total to four after four games. Their position in 11th place reflects that early return, while the San Sebastian club continue their campaign under Matarazzo.

The main talking point after the match was the decision involving Guedes and Nunez. Matarazzo made clear that he viewed the contact as sufficient for Real Sociedad to receive a penalty, but the appeal did not change the outcome.

Celta also left the rearranged match with a point after keeping a clean sheet in the 0-0 draw. The result ensured that the postponed sixth-round meeting ended level, with no winner emerging from the contest.

Matarazzo’s assessment provided the clearest reaction to the key disputed moment, as he maintained that Guedes had been fouled inside the area. His view was not reflected in the official result, which recorded a goalless draw between Real Sociedad and Celta.

Real Sociedad will take four points from their first four matches into the next stage of their La Liga campaign. For now, they occupy 11th place, while the debate over the incident involving Guedes and Nunez remains the notable issue from the rearranged fixture.
