Matar Niang: Senegal midfielder joins AJEL Rufisque on free transfer from Teungueth FC

Senegal midfielder Matar Niang has joined AJEL Rufisque on a free transfer from league rivals Teungueth FC.

The 24-year-old defensive midfielder switches within Senegal’s top flight after helping Teungueth secure the domestic league title in the 2025-26 season. His move to AJEL Rufisque has been completed ahead of the new Ligue 1 campaign, with the player leaving at the end of his spell with the champions.

Niang, born in Malika and standing at 1.90m, offers significant physical presence at the base of midfield and is predominantly right-footed. He made his Ligue 1 debut with Teungueth and registered two top-flight appearances last season, as well as gaining experience in the CAF Champions League squad.

Before joining Teungueth in 2024, Niang played for Guediawaye FC, having previously come through at Malika AF. His step to AJEL Rufisque represents the fourth club move of his senior career as he continues in Senegal’s premier division.

Niang’s market value is currently listed at €10,000, underlining AJEL Rufisque’s decision to add a domestic league champion without paying a transfer fee.

The Senegalese midfielder officially joined AJEL Rufisque on 16 July 2026 on a free transfer from Teungueth FC.
