Mariano Ahouangbo: Benin midfielder returns to Gandzasar from NK Olimpija

Benin defensive midfielder Mariano Ahouangbo has returned to Armenian club Gandzasar after completing a move from Slovenian side NK Olimpija.

The 23-year-old, who was born in Porto Novo, switches clubs on 16 August 2026 after spending the previous season with Olimpija. Gandzasar compete in Armenia’s Premier League, while Olimpija play in Slovenia’s Prva Liga.

Ahouangbo initially joined Olimpija from Tunisian club AS Soliman on 6 August 2025. He later moved to Gandzasar on loan on 19 February 2026 before returning to Olimpija at the end of that temporary spell on 30 June.

His latest move takes him back to Gandzasar, where he previously spent the latter part of the 2025-26 campaign. The clubs have not disclosed a transfer fee.

Ahouangbo operates in defensive midfield and is right-footed. He stands 1.72m tall and has a listed market value of €250,000.

The midfielder joined AS Soliman in September 2023 before moving to Olimpija two years later. His return to Gandzasar marks the latest stage of a sequence of moves between the Armenian and Slovenian clubs.

Ahouangbo’s first spell with Gandzasar came during the 2025-26 season, when he joined on loan from Olimpija. Following the conclusion of that loan, he went back to Slovenia before making the move permanent in the opposite direction in August.

His transfer history also includes a previous move from AS Soliman to Olimpija, with the Slovenian club becoming his first destination after his time in Tunisia. Ahouangbo now begins another chapter in Armenia with Gandzasar.

The completed move was registered on 16 August 2026, with Ahouangbo leaving NK Olimpija to join Gandzasar.
