Manchester United will reject any bids for captain Bruno Fernandes before the summer transfer window closes, despite reported interest from Galatasaray, Juventus and Milan, according to BBC reporter Simon Stone.
The club has made clear that the 31-year-old midfielder is not for sale at any price. Manchester United has not yet received a formal offer for Fernandes, but sources at Old Trafford believe a proposed approach from Galatasaray could ultimately prove futile.
The Turkish club was understood to be preparing a bid for Fernandes, with the total transfer fee potentially reaching €50m, approximately £42.7m. Galatasaray, along with Serie A clubs Juventus and Milan, had been considering whether to test Manchester United’s determination to retain their captain before the transfer window closes.
However, the club’s current position represents a significant change from last summer. At that time, Manchester United told Fernandes he could choose whether to accept a substantial offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal.
Fernandes later said the club’s approach had left him feeling “hurt”. Manchester United has since adopted a much firmer stance and is determined to keep the Portugal international.
Fernandes has one year remaining on his current contract, which also includes an option for a further year. The player himself would prefer to remain at Manchester United, despite the fact that the £57m release clause in his contract has expired and no agreement has yet been reached over a new deal.
The club is in a strong negotiating position because of its refusal to sell, but the reaction of supporters has also been an important factor in its decision-making.
Fernandes received a warm reception from Manchester United fans during the pre-season match against Leeds United in Dublin last week. That response reinforced the view within the club that supporters could react strongly if they believed Manchester United was not doing everything possible to retain one of its most important players.
Fernandes played a central role for the club last season, setting a Premier League record for assists in a single campaign with 21. His performances have also made him a leading contender for the 2025-26 PFA Player of the Year award, which will be announced in Manchester next week.
Manchester United’s decision means interested clubs are unlikely to secure Fernandes unless the situation changes significantly in the coming days. Galatasaray’s expected offer, even if it reaches the reported €50m figure, is therefore not currently expected to alter the club’s position.
The midfielder’s future remains linked to negotiations over a new contract, but for now both Manchester United and Fernandes are aligned on the immediate priority: continuing together at Old Trafford.
