Manchester United are interested in RB Leipzig left-back David Raum, according to talkSPORT chief football reporter Alex Crook, with the defender’s €34m release clause making a potential move particularly appealing.
United’s need for reinforcements on the left side of defence has become more apparent following their friendly defeat by AC Milan, where Luke Shaw struggled. Crook said the result had highlighted an area of concern for Erik ten Hag as the club continues to assess its options before the transfer window closes.
Manchester United initially made an enquiry about Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall. However, Newcastle have made it clear that Hall is not for sale, despite the player being willing to move to Old Trafford.
With Hall unavailable, Raum has emerged as an alternative target. The Germany international has a €34m release clause in his contract at RB Leipzig, a figure Crook believes could make him an attractive option for Manchester United.
The release clause would give United a clear understanding of the financial terms involved in any potential deal. Crook indicated that the condition in Raum’s contract is one of the reasons the defender has drawn attention as the club looks for a solution at left-back.
Raum is not the only position being considered by Manchester United during the current transfer window. The club also wants to strengthen its midfield and has maintained a long-standing interest in Lavia.
United have also been recommended Eduardo Camavinga, while Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni is another player they would like to sign. However, Crook believes a deal for Tchouameni is unlikely.
Crook said Ten Hag needs to add at least two more players before the transfer window closes. The manager is therefore facing a busy period as United weigh up defensive and midfield reinforcements.
The interest in Raum follows uncertainty over Manchester United’s options at left-back, while the situation involving Hall means the club may have to pursue a different route. Raum’s release clause provides a defined valuation, although no agreement with RB Leipzig has been reported.
The report comes as Manchester United continue to review their squad following the friendly loss to AC Milan. The performance, and Shaw’s difficulties during the match, have increased focus on the position.
