Manchester City have completed the signing of Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea on a five-year contract, while Gabriel Jesus has joined FC Barcelona in two of the biggest moves reported on the closing day of the 2026/27 summer transfer window.
Fernandez becomes Manchester City’s new record signing and the joint-highest transfer in British football history. However, when previous transfer fees are adjusted for inflation, the Argentina midfielder would not rank among the top 25 Premier League signings.
The deal marks the end of Fernandez’s time at Chelsea. According to Matt Law, Chelsea could have stopped the move from going ahead but decided to honour their agreement with Manchester City.
Fernandez posted a farewell message on social media after completing the transfer, writing: “You will always be in my heart, Blues”.
Manchester City also confirmed the arrival of Iliman Ndiaye from his former club on a five-year contract. The forward said he wanted to entertain supporters and help the team win matches.
“I want to get fans off their seat and help City win games,” Ndiaye said.
There was also late interest from Manchester United in another Manchester City player. According to Ben Jacobs, United made a deadline-day enquiry about left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri.
Gabriel Jesus joins Barcelona
Arsenal and FC Barcelona reached an agreement for the transfer of Gabriel Jesus, with the Brazilian striker signing for the blaugranes until June 2029. The move was described as a three-season agreement.
Jesus accepted a reduction in wages to complete the transfer. At his presentation press conference, he spoke about his decision to move, his injury problems during the past two years and his ability to operate in several positions across the forward line.
The former Arsenal striker also outlined his ambitions in Catalonia, saying: “Champions League is my dream, and I hope to go far with Barca to win the title”.
Arsenal had earlier missed out on Julian Alvarez, who will not move to the Premier League champions this summer. Morgan Rogers and Vinicius Junior are also among the high-profile attackers who have not moved to the Premier League during this window. Mikel Arteta’s side therefore failed to sign the star forward they had wanted, raising questions about whether their attacking options are strong enough without an elite arrival.
Aston Villa confirmed the signing of Ibrahim Mbaye from Paris Saint-Germain. The club have also brought in goalkeeper Zion Suzuki, who has been tasked with replacing Emiliano Martinez. Suzuki revealed the reason he previously turned down an opportunity to develop at Manchester United three years ago.
Chelsea have agreed a deal to sign Honest Ahanor from Serie A club Atalanta. The Italian international defender will officially join Chelsea in 2027.
A proposed transfer involving Lamine Camara and Chelsea has collapsed after Monaco withdrew from the agreement. The clubs had reached a written understanding, but AS Monaco decided to prioritise the sale of Folarin Balogun to Everton.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Marc Casado will join Depor on loan with a €30m buy option. Romano also reported that Claudio Echeverri’s loan move from Manchester City to Benfica had been completed, with Benfica covering 100% of his salary and holding a buy-option clause.
Chelsea are close to reaching an agreement with Roma for France midfielder Manu Kone, according to Sky in Italy. A loan move in the opposite direction involving Jadon Sancho, referred to as a Gittens loan move in the reports, is also being explored.
Crystal Palace have attempted to hijack a deal for Fofana, despite the player having completed his medical at Sunderland. Palace are understood to have offered better conditions than Sunderland’s proposed €30m plus €5m in add-ons.
The summer transfer window for the 2026/27 season is now closed, bringing deadline day to an end.
Elsewhere, defender Antonio Rudiger announced his retirement from the Germany national team. David Beckham also paid tribute to Lionel Messi following the Argentine great’s international retirement, telling him his “legacy will live forever”.
