Mamadou Thierno Barry attracting ETO FC interest as Union SG defender weighs next move

Senegal centre-back Mamadou Thierno Barry of Union Saint-Gilloise is being linked with a move to Hungarian side ETO FC in the NB I as the 21-year-old’s future in Brussels comes under scrutiny.

Barry, a right-footed defender who stands at 1.95m, joined Union SG in January 2025 from Norwegian club Tromsø IL in a deal worth €2.55 million and is under contract with the Belgian side until 30 June 2029. Any approach from ETO FC would therefore require the Hungarians to negotiate a fee, with the player’s current market value listed at €1.2 million.

The Dakar-born defender has already gained top-flight European experience, having featured in the Jupiler Pro League and in European competition qualifiers for Union SG. His previous spell at Tromsø brought him regular game time in the Norwegian Eliteserien, where he made 15 appearances and scored once, building his reputation in a senior league before moving to Belgium.

Since arriving at Union SG, Barry has also been part of a squad that lifted the Belgian Cup in 2026, adding early silverware to his curriculum and underlining the level at which he has been operating. His exposure across domestic league, cup and continental qualifiers is understood to have drawn attention from clubs assessing defensive options in central Europe.

Union SG are protected by the long-term deal Barry signed on arrival, and there is no indication they are under pressure to sell, leaving ETO FC to test the Belgian club’s resolve if they decide to formalise their interest. For now, Barry remains contracted to Union SG until 2029.
