Veteran Croatia captain Luka Modric is poised to sign a one-year contract extension with AC Milan that will keep him at San Siro until the summer of 2027, according to multiple media reports in Italy.
The agreement would see Modric, who turns 41 in a few weeks, extend his career at the highest level despite having openly contemplated retirement before the 2026 World Cup.
Italian outlet MilanNews and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano both report that a full agreement has been reached between the player and the club, with only final formalities and the official signature still outstanding. The deal is expected to be announced this week.
Under the terms being reported, Modric will earn around €3.5m per season, with additional bonuses linked to performances and objectives.
From retirement doubts to fresh deal
Before the 2026 World Cup, Modric had acknowledged he was unsure about his next career move and did not rule out “hanging up his boots” and bringing an end to his playing days.
