Cameroonian-South African right-back Loic Ombala has joined FC Biel-Bienne on a free transfer from Vevey-Sports in an all-Swiss move completed on 21 July 2026.
The 29-year-old defender switches from the 1. Liga Group 1 to the Promotion League, stepping up a tier in the Swiss football pyramid as Biel-Bienne strengthen their defensive options ahead of the new campaign. Ombala arrives without a transfer fee after leaving Vevey-Sports, where he had been operating on the right side of defence.
Comfortable at right-back, Ombala brings senior experience and versatility to a Biel-Bienne side aiming to consolidate their position in the Promotion League. His move also reflects Biel-Bienne’s policy of recruiting proven players from within the Swiss system rather than looking overseas for reinforcements.
Ombala’s dual Cameroonian and South African nationality adds further international flavour to a squad already shaped by a mix of domestic and foreign talent. Having been tested in competitive regional football with Vevey-Sports, he now faces the challenge of adapting to the higher tempo and standards demanded in the national third tier.
The transfer is a permanent deal, with Ombala now registered as an FC Biel-Bienne player for the 2026-27 Promotion League season following his free transfer from Vevey-Sports.
